The Broke and the Bookish

I have been very excited about this week’s TTT topic because for several weeks now I’ve been feeling like I’m having the best TBR pile of my whole life and every time I finish a book it feels like heaven because there are so many amazing books to choose from to pick my next read. I’ve gotten so many interesting books in the past three months that I even had to leave some books out for this list which I’m also DYING to read like Brandon Sanderson’s „The Rithmatist“ or „Library of Souls“ by Ransom Riggs for example. So here are the 10 books I’ve recently added to my TBR which I’m currently most excited about…

This week’s theme for Bookish Scene: Project 52 is „Wanderlust“ and only thinking about it already makes me want to pack my things and jump on a plane to visit another country. I’m not really into spending my vacation on a beach and doing nothing but lying around (even though the idea of spending the whole day on the beach reading is a bit tempting but when I travel to other countries then I rather want to explore them and see as much as possible while I’m there. Chance Dalton from Midland, North Carolina, definitely has had better days in his life: he just got beaten up by a bunch of high school bullies who he had anonymously unmasked with his hacking skills for having sexually assaulted several girls and who now seem to have found out who is responsible for losing them their scholarships due to the committed rapes. During the fight they also damaged his precious Plymouth  and all this crap happened to him BEFORE some armed government agents broke into his trailer and caught him in the act of another hack that was supposed to be a revenge for the brawl. But Chance is not the only one with some special computer knowledge who gets into trouble because of his little illegal hobby since he shares his fate with four hackers all over the United States who all suddenly get a surprise visit from a „Mr. Government“ who takes them to a secret government facility where he confronts the delinquents with an offer that they can hardly put down: either they go to jail for their cyber crimes or they change sides and spend the next months working for the state and combine their technical skills to work on a special and top-secret NSA project…

The Broke and the Bookish

I got more than 150 books last year which was quite a lot but of course I didn’t get all the books I had on my 2015 wishlist – which is on the one hand a bit sad because there are so many interesting books that I missed but on the other hand it gives me enough material for this week’s Top 10 Tuesday topic, the „Top 10 2015 releases I meant to get but to didn’t“. I decided to only list books that I don’t own already because next week’s topic already deals with books on the TBR pile, so here are the ten books where I regret the most that I didn’t buy and read them last year…

This weeks theme for Bookish Scene: Project 52 is „Depths of Winter“ and although I own quite a few books who are set in winter (the cold is such a good setting for thrillers!^^) most of them don’t look like it, so it was not that easy to find a matching book for this week. (mehr …)

Now That She's Gone_Rezi

It’s been four years since 16-year old student Katy Frazier went missing in Port Orchard, Washington, and her parents still haven’t given up hope that her beloved daughter is still alive. After all these years they’ve now sought the help of the famous psychic „Pandora“ who runs the TV show „Spirit Hunters“ where she investigates unsolved cases with her self-proclaimed supernatural abilities. While Katy’s father is rather skeptical towards the eccentric and fame-seeking woman his wife sets all her hope in this last effort to finally find closure. Kendall Stark, who works as a detective with the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Department, gets assigned to the cold case as well to assist the psychic and present the department in a good light in the media coverage that Pandora’s involvement brings along, since the now retired detective who was once responsible for the Frazier case was rumored to have messed up the investigation. Not being a believer in the supernatural herself Kendall is quite annoyed by the psychic’s interference and how the department wants her to play along, especially since Brenda Nevins, a notorious serial killer that has already crossed the detective’s path once has just escaped from her prison cell and is now on the loose… (mehr …)

DecemberR1

Compared to the just five books I’ve read in November the seven books I read last month were already a little improvement but overall December wasn’t a very strong reading month for me as well. I was busy with Christmas preparations and also my car suddenly decided that the end of the year would be a good time to just DIE, so I had to spent a lot of time at the car workshop and driving around borrowing cars from my parents or grandparents so that I could at least drive to work which was just so annoying because it kinda ruined the Christmas season for me this year… (mehr …)
