In 2016 I’m trying to participate in BookishScene: Project 52, a bookish Instagram challenge hosted by Joséphine (@wordrevel) and Georgie (@whatgeorgiedid),and post a picture every week though I’m not sure if that will always work out^^. I still need to set up an extra page for the challenge where I’m going to collect all the pictures and link all the posts but I already wanted to share my first picture with you 😉

This week’s theme is Bucket List“ and therefor I wanted to show you one of the things that is on top of my personal bucket list: ever since watching „Free Willy“ as a child I’ve been somewhat obsessed with orcas and I really hope to get to see one in its natural habitat (and NOT in a place like SeaWorld) at least once in my life. I had hoped to see one on my trip to Iceland last year even though the chances for this weren’t very promising and unsurprisingly I haven’t been successful. This year I’m planning to do a trip to Canada which would then also include a whale-watching tour so I hope that I’ll have better luck this time and be able to cross the orcas off my bucket list 😉

A few infos about the book on the picture: If you’re interested in why places like SeaWorld aren’t the right environment for killer whales (and other marine creatures) I can highly recommend the non-fiction book „Death at SeaWorld: Shamu and the Dark Side of Killer Whales in Captivity“ by David Kirby. It can almost be described as the book version of the successful documentary movie „Blackfish“ which dealt with the the orca Tilikum who was held captive in SeaWorld Orlando and who caused the death of three people. Kirby tries to find explanations for the attacks and if you are interested in killer whales it’s a very interesting analysis that gives a lot of background information on these impressive animals and can at times be gripping like a thriller. You can find my review of „Death at SeaWorld“ here.
