We are now right in the middle of our „The Flight of the Silvers“ read-along and we hope you’re still enjoying the book! It also means that it’s time for our second discussion round where we would like to talk a little bit about the unsual setting of the story, one of its mysterious characters and about how you liked the first half of the book so far. Again you can answer the three questions either in the comments section or simply via Twitter using the hashtag #SilversMonth.

Questions

Q1: Now that you are halfway through the book you have already spent quite some time on the alternate earth that Daniel Price has created. What do you think about this setting? Are there any particular things that you like/dislike and could you imagine living in a world like this – a world WITHOUT HARRY POTTER? 😉

Q2: Mia got two notes from her future self about Peter as well as a letter from Peter himself. Do you think the Silvers can trust him and should get to NY next to meet him?

Q3: It’s time for a little halftime résumé: how do you like THE FLIGHT OF THE SILVERS so far? Does it live up to your expectations? What do you like most about the book and are they maybe also some things that you’re struggling with?

The next part of our read-along discussion will take place on Sunday, February 1st, when we will ask you about your impressions of the chapters 20-29. If you have missed the first part you can find it here. Have fun!

  • I don’t want to live in this world. Besides the medical possibilities it seems really boring out there – these poor Americans don’t even has Lord of the Rings and Sherlock. Imagine that! 😉 Beside tempis it seems to be very much like our world, I would have appreciated more differences coming out of the alternate timeline, but maybe this comes later.

My belly feeling tells me to trust Peter at the moment, but I have the clue that Mia will getting dark in the end. And of course there will be some more surprises when they reach NY. Thats what I really like about this story, all those hints and surprises and new secrets and the big overall which has resulted those events.

What bothers me most at the moment is Melissa Masaad – I can’t stand her. All the fuss about her being so alternative and oh so special – argh! But thats whining at the highest level… LOVE this book <3

    • I’m not sure if I would really want to live in a world like this but there are some pretty cool gadgets I would just love to use – for example the rejuvenator to stop throwing away rotten food. And I imagine it’s also really cool to go to the cinema and watch 2-hour-movies without losing more than 20 minutes. And I would probably also pay a lot to eat in a flying restaurant 😀

Regarding Peter I have to admit that I’m still not sure what to think of him, even after reading the book already twice. I think Daniel Price will still keep us in doubts for another little while^^

To be honest I kinda liked Melissa even though she was hunting the Silvers but at least you love the book so far which is for sure the most important thing! 😀

  • 1. I think the setting is really good, but I wouldn’t want to live there either. Messing with time is never good. The cataclsym caused the diffence between this world and ours, and this was not a good thing. The flying cars etc. remind me of the 5th element, so I do have a mental picture for those 😉 I find that at least would be cool. I can’t see how criminals have much of a chance in this world, with all the possibilities of actually seeing what happened at a certain location, like watching a film. Who would be so stupid to commit a crime? That has to be a good thing.

    2. I don’t know what to think of Peter. Mia seems to trust him now, although her first note said the contrary. I think they should get to New York (which they probably will) and see for themselves. They should start trusting each other more. I don’t understand why Mia is beeing so secretive about her notes. She risked the lives of all of them in not telling them about the attack. She did not tell about Evan Rander either. Why not? I find her a little bit exasperating, but I guess she is only 15 and too insecure.

    3. Well, I do find the story really great! The only expectations I had are the ones you two (Sebastian, Crini) started, but to be honest, I didn’t really have any, so it doesn’t have to live up to any.

The one thing I don’t understand is Evan Rander. So he is doing the past 5 years for the 55th time. BUT how? Does he just send his conscience back to the moment he arrives in this new world? what happens to his future body, the one five years ahead? Does it just disappear, stop existing? Doesn’t seem so logical to me at the moment.

    • Interesting thoughts on the Evan Rander thing, to be honest I never thought about this^^

I can understand your problems with Mia but this is another aspect I LOVED about this book: All the characters have their flaws and do stupid things from time to time but a few scenes later they work so well together as a team that they almost feel like a family…

Hi Janice. You’re the first person I’ve ever seen ask that question! Not only have I given the matter some serious (some might say crazy) thought, but you will see exactly what happens to a body when the consciousness jumps back to another timeline. That’s coming in Book Two. I swear it.
