When I first heard about this week’s Bookish Scene: Project 52 theme „Spring“ at the end of February, I was hoping that it would be possible to go outside and take pictures with books and blooming plants by then but when I look outside my window it still looks a lot like winter and most of the trees don’t even have a single leaf yet. “Top 10 Tuesday” is a weekly meme by The Broke and the Bookish
For quite a while now I’m feeling like I’m having the best TBR pile I’ve ever had because out of the 80 unread books on my shelves I want to read at least 40 right away, that’s what made it super difficult for me to pick just 10 for this week’s TTT list. My choice was not really influenced by the upcoming season because I don’t think I have any typical spring books (like cheesy romances :P) and murder knows no season anyway 😀 (mehr …)
In 1944, when she was only 6 years old, Yael was deported to one of the Nazis‘ death camps where she not only had to watch her family and friends die but also was abused as a research object by a mad Nazi scientist whose experiments made her suffer even more. But Yael survived torture and tragedy and managed to escape from the camp to join the secret resistance against the National Socialists.
12 years later, Adolf Hitler is still alive and his Third Reich and the Imperial Japan under Emperor Hirohito rule the world. To celebrate their victory over the Allies they host an annual motorcycle race through all the conquered countries and for Yael and the resistance this is the only chance for the ultimate strike against the Nazis since the winner of the race gets to attend a ball in Tokyo which provides the only chance to get close to Hitler. Yael’s mission is clear: win the race and kill the man who is responsible for millions of deaths in World War II, including the ones of the people she loved… (mehr …)

Choosing a book for this week’s Bookish Scene: Project 52 theme „Shards“ was quite easy because I immediately thought of Frank Schätzing’s „Breaking News“ since there actually are shards on the book cover, so it was an obvious choice for me. (mehr …)

Sam Wiseman has fulfilled his dream a few years ago when he started a little independent bookshop with his best friend Jennifer in the center of Montreal and even though it’s not a business that will make its owners rich they both never regretted their decision since the opening of the store and are still happy about being able to work in such a cosy atmosphere and leading a life surrounded by their favorite books. But when Sam one day suddenly discovers the body of one their regular customers some unexpected excitement finds its way into his life: While delivering a book order to the nearby McGill University he finds professor Harold Hilliard dead in his office, apparently beaten to death with a bust from his shelves. And even though Sam Wiseman is shocked by the violent death of the professor he can barely hide his excitement about being involved in a real murder investigation, especially when detective Gaston Lemieux, another long-time client to which Sam developed a friendship over their mutual love for the works of Charles Dickens, asks him to help him with the investigation…
I wish I could say that February was just as a successful reading month as January, but that would be a lie 😛 I only managed to read/listen to 9 books and got more books than planned so when it comes to the reduction of my TBR pile I pretty much ruined everything I had achieved the previous month 😀 (mehr …)
February was such an amazing bookish month, I wish every month would be like this when it comes to new book releases (though this would probably be disastrous for my TBR and my account balance…^^) Here are all the great books I got last month! (mehr …)
This week’s Bookish Scene: Project 52 theme „Twists & Turns“ suits me quite well because as an avid reader of thrillers and crime fiction these are essential things that make this genre so exciting for me. There’s nothing wrong about a linear but well-plotted mystery but what provides the real thrill for me are twists that throw me off my feet and unpredictable turns that shock me to the core.
