This week’s Bookish Scene: Project 52 theme is „Diversity“ and I have to admit that usually this is not an aspect that does really influence my choice of books because I’m a very story-driven driven reader and it doesn’t really matter to me if the characters are male, female, transgender, old, young, black, white, handicapped or whatever as long as the plot manages to fascinate me. I actually find it a bit sad that diversity even has to be a topic in the first place because I think it should be natural and not something that needs to be specifically mentioned.

I almost forgot to take a picture for Bookish Scene: Project 52 this week but fortunately still remembered it before the sun went down yesterday, so here’s my picture for this week’s theme „Sunshine“. It was a bit difficult to find a fitting book but eventually I decided to go with Nil by Lynne Matson because it’s set on a tropical island and makes for a mysterious and entertaining summer read (see full review here). AprilR1

I still miss the times when I managed to read 15 or more books per month and not just eight as in April but at least the quality of the books I’ve read improved compared to the rather poor March. 6 out of 8 books got 4 stars or higher but some of them still felt like a little disappointment because my expectations had been so high that some books didn’t manage to live up to them even though I really enjoyed reading them. Bout of Books

I’ve been wanting to participate in a Bout of Books read-a-thon for quite a while now but so far had always only heard about it when it was already too late to sign up, so I’m quite happy that I finally learned about the new edition still in time to participate for the first time! \o/

„The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, May 9th and runs through Sunday, May 15th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 16 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team“ (mehr …)

I’m so sorry for picking such a sad book for this week’s Bookish Scene: Project 52 theme „Mother’s Love“ but when I stared at my bookshelves desperately trying to find a fitting book the only books that came to my mind where Harry Potter and „A Monster Calls“ by Patrick Ness and since a little bird (*coughs* Maraia *coughs*) told me that I might not be the only one with the Harry Potter idea I decided to go with this one. But at least I tried to make my picture a bit less depressing by adding some heart-shaped candy!

Neu_April

You might remember from my previous newbie post that my March book haul got a little bit out of hand, so I’m relieved that April didn’t continue my downfall but left me with a still reasonable number of new books – nine new books & eBooks isn’t that much, right? 😉 And two of them didn’t even go on my TBR pile since I’ve already read them and only wanted to get a physical copy for my shelves, so I’ve got everything under control… 😀 (mehr …)

Evil_at_heart_Rezi

After her unexpected breakout from prison, serial killer Gretchen Lowell is still on the run and her escape has turned America into a state of madness where nobody seems to be able to resist the incredible aura of the cruel but deadly attractive psychopath. While police forces all over the country are trying to hunt Gretchen down with all their might, the sensationalist media coverage has made the serial killer a celebrity that is even more popular than pop stars or hollywood actors – her face is just everywhere: on magazine covers, on t-shirts or on TV where one special report about the „Beauty Killer“ follows the other. Only the one man who knows Gretchen Lowell better than anybody else seems to have completely lost interest in her and her case: After having barely survived two nearly deadly encounters with Gretchen and having lost almost everything that mattered to him due to his obsession with this woman, Detective Archie Sheridan has checked himself into a mental institution and has spent the past two months in the psych ward of the Providence Medical Center. But when a family on vacation discovers a spleen at a local rest stop it seems as if Gretchen is back in Portland – and Archie eventually finds himself back on the case to put an end to Gretchen’s killing spree once and for all… (mehr …)
