“Top 10 Tuesday” is a weekly meme by The Broke and the Bookish

I’m starting the new year with lots of new motivation and new ideas for the blog and one of the things I want to do in 2017 is to participate even more in the „Top 10 Tuesday“ feature by The Broke and the Bookish.

One of the reasons I’m super excited about it is that I could convince Maraia to join me for at least a few posts this year (I’m definitely hoping this becomes a regular thing ;P) and the topic „Top Ten 2017 Debuts I’m Excited For“ seemed perfect for this because I definitely wouldn’t have been able to come up with 10 books all by myself XD So here are ten 2017 debuts that we are looking forward to this year – Ladies first 😉

  • The Hate U Give – Angie Thomas
A brutally honest portrayal of racism in America, this book seems to be on everyone’s radar right now, and I’m hoping it lives up to the hype. It comes highly recommended by Sana, so I’m expecting it to be both amazing and painful.
  • City of Saints & Thieves – Natalie C. Anderson
I guess this is technically cheating, since I’ve already read it, but it was one of my most anticipated 2017 releases. The mystery kept me hooked, the characters were complex, I didn’t guess all the surprises, it was culturally and sexually diverse, and I LOVED the setting. Also, it has a great cover.
  • Mask of Shadows – Linsey Miller
This is about a gender fluid pick pocket who becomes an assassin. Need I say more?
  • Hold Back the Stars – Katie Khan
I’m always wary of YA science fiction, but Crini says this is good, and I trust her. Bonus points for diversity and a beautiful green cover.
  • Dreadnought – April Daniels
I saw this on a list of 2017 LGBT books, and it immediately caught my eye. It’s about a transgender superhero, which sounds awesome! I also really like the cover.

  • Final Girls – Riley Sager
This one is probably the debut novel I’m looking forward to the most right now and I blame it on Stephen King who praised this book on Twitter and even compared it to „Gone Girl“. The latter is not really a motivation to read it for me but a mystery thriller about three women who all survived the encounter with a killer and became known as the „Final Girls“, only to have to face a new attack a few years later sounds just too good to miss.
  • Ragdoll – Daniel Cole
This 2017 debut is already being hyped as the „standout thriller of the year“ and how am I supposed to resist a thriller where the serial killer stitches his victims together like a puppet and plays a diabolic game with the public? Also this book is set in London and I will just never get tired of this town.
  • Rattle – Fiona Cummins
„A psychopath more frightening than Hannibal Lecter.“ – This is already enough to make me curious about this serial killer thriller, now add „terrifying cat-and-mouse game“, „macabre museum“ and let the story take place in London and I’m sold.
  • The Book of Mirrors – E.O. Chirovici
A literary agent finds an unfinished manuscript of a memoir that deals with the case of a murdered Princeton professor which could never be solved and now sets out to find the killer 25 years after the crime took place. I always find book-in-book stories fascinating and this one reminds me a bit of Marisha Pessl’s „Night Film“ so that I hope that this one has a similar eerie atmosphere.
  • You Don’t Know Me – Imran Mahmood
This legal thriller attracted my curiosity because of the interesting concept: a murder suspect is close to being convicted for his alleged crime but then sacks his lawyer before the Closing Speech and talks the jury through every piece of evidence again to unveil his version of the truth – but is it the right one?

Which 2017 debut novels are you excited for and
are some of the listed books above on your list, too?

  • Commenting on my own blog post feels funny but here we go XD

I keep forgetting which book „City of Saints & Thieves“ is because my mind doesn’t really connect a book that is being described as „The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo meets Gone Girl“ to a cover like this since it doesn’t look like a murder mystery at all 😀 I’m a bit sad you already read it because I think it’s the book that would fit my taste in books the most^^

I definitely want to read „The Hate U Give“ with you and the blurb for „Hold Back the Stars“ sounds interesting, too!

I would also join you with „Dreadnought“ because superheroes and the cover is indeed great, maybe we should get a physical copy for our library 😉

I’m not sure about „Mask of Shadows“ yet because I definitely need more information XD

    • Haha, at least you managed to be first this time. ;P

I really like the cover! Even though you’re right. And I know, I wanted to buddy read it with you, but I also wanted to read the ARC Izzy so nicely gave me. I can read it again, though! I’d still enjoy buddy reading it with you. If we can fit it in my suitcase. xD

I’m still a little skeptical about Hold Back the Stars, but that green cover. *____*

      Woohoo, sounds good!

GENDER FLUID PICKPOCKET WHO BECOMES AN ASSASSIN. How does that not sound amazing? xD (Okay, it’ll probably be super disappointing, but I can pretend.)

  • „Top Ten 2017 debuts Maraia/Sebastian is excited for“ and then you only list 5 😛

Hold Back the Stars isn’t YA Maraia!

  • Shouldn’t there be 20 debuts? What am I missing here =P

Whoo, yes so excited for you to read The Hate U Give, Maraia! Hell yeah to Mask of Shadows and Hold Back the Stars. Dreadnought sounds fantastic so I hope it doesn’t disappoint.

The Book of Mirrors sounds interesting!

  • Only two of yours weren’t on my list already, but I guess I’ll end up reading them with you, anyway, haha.

„how am I supposed to resist a thriller where the serial killer stitches his victims together like a puppet and plays a diabolic game with the public?“ is a seriously disturbing question. xD

  • Okay this list is just all around awesome.? I’m absolutely looking forward to all the one’s on Maraia’s list (is she surprised? no she is not?) but particularly Saints and Thieves honestly because I need thieving books in my life. :‘) And also Ragdoll sounds horrifying and interesting?! *dashes off to goodreads*

    • Haha, I’m glad at least „Ragdoll“ got a honorable mention next to all of Maraia’s books XD

(See, M., people like disturbing teasers ;P)

    • Nope, not surprised, haha. I’ll be more surprised if we actually manage to read them all. You’ll have to test run them for me, since I won’t have time, and tell me which ones are worth reading. My other goal will be getting you to read more of the mysteries and thrillers I’ve been enjoying, now that you’ve adventured into adult books. 😉

  • I hadn’t heard of Dreadnoght – I’ll have to look into it! Great list. 🙂

    Check out my TTT.
